Using Appdome, you can upload your iOS (.ipa) or Android (.apk) app and select options to integrate the app with the Airwatch SDK in a few minutes.
With Appdome, you can combine the Airwatch SDK, without having to write a single line of code, prep the app or change any settings. As of the date of this article, the Airwatch SDK does not support Container. The capability to provide both services on a single app is available only on Appdome.
Once Fusion is complete, you can deploy the Fused app via AirWatch and install the Fused app on mobile devices. All data created within the app will be encrypted and protected inside a container, preventing other applications from accessing the app's encrypted data. This allows you to enjoy all the features the AirWatch SDK offers as well as the additional security of Appdome's Secure Data Container.
How to integrate the AirWatch SDK using Appdome
To Fuse your app with the Airwatch SDK and to enable Appdome's Container, follow these simple steps. Note, the same workflow can be used for either an Android or iOS app.
1. Upload App to Appdome
You will need to have your app binary available to begin. If you are running iOS, you can use a signed or unsigned .ipa file. However, if you are running Android, please make sure you upload a signed .apk file.
You can add an app to the Appdome platform in two ways. You can simply drag the .ipa or .apk file in the box at the center of the screen or Click Add New App. For now, let’s click the + icon and then browse your local files for the .ipa or .apk or select an app from Your Workbench Catalog to Add:
Note: the step numbers are for your convenience and are not shown on the actual UI.
Once you find the .ipa or .apk file you intend to use, simply select it. The file will be automatically added to the Appdome platform. Once complete, you’ll see a success message and automatically moved to the next step in the workflow.
2. Get ready to make your Fusion selections
After your app is uploaded to the Appdome platform, you are ready to make your Fusion selections from the Fuse tab of the workflow.
3. Select Management under the Fuse tab
To add the Airwatch SDK, you’ll need to enable 3rd Party SDKs on the Appdome platform. Next, choose the 3rd Party Enterprise Mobility Management SDK you wish to Fuse to your application – you’ll see the Airwatch SDK listed in the drop down.
Click Management under the Fuse tab to get to the Fusion Settings.
4. Select the AirWatch SDK
If you have an EXTEND or IDEAL account class on the Appdome platform –viewable on the bottom status bar– there are options available to select a 3rd Party SDK.
Next to 3rd Party SDK, move the slider button to the right which turns it on.
From the drop-down list, select AirWatch SDK
5. Enable Secured Container (Data at Rest Encryption)
Appdome offers to protect the data the application creates on the device. It will also create secure data container that will prevent other applications from accessing the app's encrypted data and prevent the same application on a different device to open this encrypted data as well.
6. Adaptive App Routing
By Default, the app will set to bypass AirWatch and route all traffic to the destination specified natively in the app.
If you wish to have the app route all traffic via AirWatch, you will need to:
- Disable Adaptive App Routing by simply turning off the feature switch.
- Enable "App Tunnel" on your AirWatch Console.
Please note, Appdome only supports hostname level resolution (example.com).
7. Fuse My App
To start the Fusion process, integrate with the Airwatch SDK, and enable Secured Container
Click Fuse My App
Note: The Fusion process can be from a few seconds to a few minutes depending on the size of your app. Appdome is stateful allowing you to leave this page or even log out. You will get an email when the process is complete.
When done, you will see a Fusion Complete! message.
8. Fusion is complete, proceed to next steps
Once the application has been Fused, click Next.
9. Context for your App
You will be able to change the App Name under the Context tab. You can also edit the App Icon, add Favicon to the app, and App Configuration files for the App.
- App Display Name - This is the name that will be displayed for the app after its been installed on the mobile device.
- App Icon - If you want to change the app icon you can choose a different image file.
- Add Favicon - You can add an image on top of your app icon that can be positioned anywhere that you would like.
- App Configuration - This is where you can add additional custom app configuration files and custom values to the app.
After editing these click Add Context to My App.
10. Sign app Using Appdome or Privately Sign the app yourself
In order to deploy an app, it must be signed. You can sign using your own signing processes by downloading the Fused app, or you can sign from within the Appdome platform.
Explanations for how to sign an app using the Appdome platform are available in the following knowledge base articles.
